    Boston Yacht Haven has long been in turmoil over Ownership issues and financial issues and a bad economy. Finally there seems to be resolution. Boston Yacht haven has recently been purchased by a New England businessman who specializes In Real Estate development and has been in the marina business for years. Yacht Haven is being run and managed by IGY. Brian Deher, manager of Isle de Sol in St. Maarten, has taken on the project for IGY for the season. He plans to return to St. Maarten for the winter season.

    Today the docks were occupied by Le Iguana, Cracker Bay, Kapalua and Northern Light. Sovereign is scheduled for August along with a host of popular megayachts.

  • There's No Place Like Nowhere ...

    Thirty years ago this month, John Lennon left Newport on a small boat headed for Bermuda. He hoped the five-day voyage would unlock his musical writer's block. It turned out to be the ride of his life.

    The Megan Jaye sailed into St. George's Harbour in Hamilton, Bermuda, one of the passengers scrawled in the guest log, "Dear Megan, There's no place like nowhere." The forty-three-foot Hinckley centerboard sloop, lovingly named Megan Jaye after her owner's daughter, had safely arrived after a seven-day journey from Newport, Rhode Island, with precious cargo. The dedication continued with a fond thank you to the yacht's captain, Hank Halsted, complete with the writer's trademark caricature self-portrait and a sketch of the Megan Jaye sailing into the sunset. It was signed "love, John Lennon."

  • Charters

    The 2010 Mediterranean charter season seems as though it is off to a good start as evidenced at the charter meeting held at the Marina Mollo Vechio in Genoa, Italy last week.

    The Captains and Charter Brokers in attendance commented on the improved inquiries and bookings for the upcoming season.

    In attendance for Northrop and Johnson were Steve and Paula Doyle from the Boston office, June Montaigne and Ann Landry from the Ft. Lauderdale office, Missy Johnston from the Rhode Island office and Kathy Mullen from the St. Thomas office.

  • Boat Asia 2010 in Singapore's Marina at Keppel Bay was held from April 15 to April 18.

    This event was of particular importance to Northrop and Johnson as our new Asia offices were there for their unveiling to the yachting industry.

    While at the event Simon Turner was hired to manage the . Singapore operations and David Yourieff was hired to . Manage the operations in Thailand being based in Phuket.

    Bart Kimmen, Director of Northrop and Johnson-Asia, and Steve Doyle attended the Asia-Pacific superyachts conference held on April 16 at the Republic Of Singapore Yacht Club. "It appears that the yachting industry in Asia is a major player and growing rapidly" observed Steve Doyle, Director of Northrop and Johnson's parent company.
