The chef and interior team of Northrop & Johnson charter yacht LIONSHARE — a 129′ (39.62m) Heesen yacht cruising the Caribbean this winter — took home top prizes from the 60th Diamond Jubilee Celebration Antigua 2021 Show Chef Competition.
Chef Julian was awarded second place overall for his culinary creations and first place for the best starter. Chief Stewardess Alex and her interior team took home first place overall for their stunning tablescape.
The theme of this year’s competition for both the chef and tablescaping competitions was “60th-anniversary Diamond Jubilee Celebration.” Chefs were tasked with creating a creative three-course meal and interior teams set their sights on designing the most enticing table settings. All yachts also were provided one complimentary bottle of Piper-Heidsieck Cuvee Brut Champagne to include in the tablescape.
Chefs were asked to prepare a first course with ingredients of their choices, the main course with a protein and ingredients of their choices and a dessert featuring a tropical fruit prepared two ways. Chef Julian’s menu included, a starter of Ship’s Cariar Petrossian Ration, which was beautifully presented in a small tin box filled with the Caviar, Crème Fraiche, Crile and Steak Tartare, the main course of Ian Fleming Lobster Thermidor with Antiguan lobster, Thermidor risotto and confit tomato and a dessert of Chef’s Banoffee Dessert before he decided to put it in a pie of Elroy’s Antiguan bananas three ways, caramel, chocolate biscuit crumb, chocolate soil and hazelnut cream.
“I’m not very sensible,” joked Chef Julian, “I chose the menu as it was a little ’tongue in cheek’ and fun but it still complied completely with the 60’s theme rules for the competition.”
Chief Stewardess Alex presented an eco-friendly table setting that was beautiful and sustainable, and also in keeping with Northrop & Johnson’s new eco-conscious initiatives.
‘’I was very proud to represent LIONSHARE’s eco-friendly initiatives with my table setting,” said Alex. “Wherever possible we try to think of the environment first and so, by using recycled materials on the table (as the centerpiece, no less), I feel that I really represented us well. I just hope that we can encourage other vessels to realize that there are so many materials already on board that can be reused and recycled to create something beautiful instead of being thrown away.”
Kudos to the incredible team aboard LIONSHARE for their excellence during the 2021 Antigua Charter Show and best of luck during your winter charter season.
