Sailing enthusiasts can now access some of the most alluring waters and challenging trade winds in the Caribbean direct from the United States, thanks to new daily nonstop flights between Miami and the British Virgin Islands (BVI) via American Airlines.
The much-anticipated service began June 1, allowing new and returning visitors to arrive in the stunning Caribbean archipelago via one three-hour flight. Where beach lovers and sailors were previously required to connect through Puerto Rico or St. Thomas to get to the BVI, this expansion links the U.S. and BVI directly, minimizing travel time. Vacationers can reach their final vacation destination — a yacht charter, luxury villa, or private island — with ease.
“As the first nonstop flight from the U.S. in decades, this is a monumental opportunity to bring more North American travelers to the crystal-clear waters of our beloved island destination,” said Clive McCoy, Director of Tourism, British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission.
The new air service is estimated to bring 2,128 passengers to the BVI each month—changing the game for travelers who are seeking an easy island getaway to a beautiful destination.
Daily flights from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS) will depart at 10:07 a.m. and arrive at 1:06 p.m. Return flights will depart at 1:47 p.m. and arrive at 4:25 p.m. This schedule will run through August 14 and restart in November after the fall low season.
In addition to this new American Airlines service, increased demand has led Tradewind Aviation, a private flight charter service, to announce a new seasonal service from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Virgin Gorda, the BVI’s third-largest island. Beginning November 16 and running until April 8, the nonstop flight will operate on Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and holiday Tuesdays, adding yet another option for vacationers to comfortably and conveniently reach the hidden gem of the Caribbean.
