One&Only Portonovi: Redefining Montenegro's Hottest Riviera

Posted August 19, 2024 in Travel by Miriam Cain

Located in the heart of Boka Bay in Montenegro, One&Only Portonovi has redefined the northern end of this dazzling Balkan coastline. The hottest riviera in the Mediterranean right now, Montenegro may be small, but it packs in a wealth of attractions for the waterborne. While cruising through the Bay of Kotor, with its fjord-like contours backed by a lush mountainous landscape, take time out to head into Portonovi. Boasting 60 acres of manicured gardens, One&Only Portonovi connects with its surroundings at every level. Private villas have their own jetties, while the resort sits on one of the few private sandy beaches in the country. Berthed in the Portonovi marina or anchored in Boka Bay, tender in to enjoy the resort’s social scene with restaurants and bars that draw on local ingredients – fresh seafood plucked straight from the ocean, ripe tomatoes, and mountain herbs – to be savored at one of three à la carte restaurants.

For Japanese-inspired cuisine, the glamorous Tapasake is fine dining combined with a cool club vibe with its poolside lounging and DJ soundtrack. This is the place to head once the sun has set for soulful tunes and a cocktail at the dedicated gin bar. Try the Nihon Negroni or a Japanese gin with a fragrant tea infusion created by Head of Wine, Rafaela Pons.

If Italian cuisine is more to your liking, delight in the elegant menu at the refined Italian restaurant Sabia. Enjoy a long alfresco lunch or dinner with views over the bay and mountains and a fine wine selected from the walk-in wine cellar. Alternatively, for those looking to try local cuisine, La Veranda has a wide menu showcasing everything from traditional Montenegrin dishes (the slow-cooked Montenegro lamb coming highly recommended) to international dishes such as Japanese Wagyu and Kagoshima ribeye steak.

Tapasake is open for lunch from 12 pm to 4 pm and dinner from 6 pm to 10 pm, Monday through Sunday.
Sabia is open for lunch from 12 pm to 4 pm and dinner from 6 pm to 10 pm, Monday through Sunday.
