Top Spots for Dining During the Cannes Yachting Festival

Posted January 1, 2021 in Travel by Janine St.Denis

It’s not all French baguettes and steak frites down in Cannes. The gamut of gastronomic restaurants in this glamorous French town will leave you spoiled for choice. From traditional bistros to fine dining, these are the best restaurants to discover in and around Cannes right now.

La Palme D’or, Hôtel Martinez
You don’t need to venture far from the Vieux Port to find a freshly seared catch-of-the-day alongside innovative dishes from world-renowned chefs. Sitting on the glitzy La Croisette, the long beach promenade that traverses Cannes, the Hôtel Martinez is home to the classic French Riviera restaurant La Palme d’Or. The only restaurant in Cannes with two Michelin stars, reserve a table on the terrace for spectacular views while enjoying the highly recommended tasting menu by Chef Christian Sinicropi.

L’affable
Recommended by Michelin, the authentic bistro-style L’Affable is where you will find creative dishes which change according to what the market has to offer. The à la carte menu is as varied as it is tasty – enjoy cod aioli with fresh vegetables, followed by the signature dessert, a classic Grand Marnier soufflé.

Bfire By Mauro Colagreco, La Plage Majestic Barrière
One of the most atmospheric places to have lunch during the show, BFire at La Plage Majestic Barrière is affiliated with the five-star eponymous hotel. The scene-stealing location is at the heart of the action, with the largest jetty on the Croisette. Wood fired dishes combined a fusion of Italian and Argentinian flavors to create an à la carte menu that is varied and unique, while the seafood buffet has become a firm favorite with the yachting crowd.

Le Bistrot Gourmand
With just a dozen tables, it is hard to get a reservation at this little gem of an establishment but worth it if you can. Here Chef Guillaume Arragon serves up Provençal classics, including fish bouillabaisse made with catch-of-the-day, while the fresh vegetables that accompany the lamb or fish dishes come straight from the neighboring food market: Marché Forville.

La Cave
With more than 500 varieties of grapes on the wine list, this laid-back bistro is perfect for a fun evening in town. The menu is based around local ingredients and changes with the seasons with traditional French dishes, including frog’s legs, escargot and foie gras among the many highlights.

Auberge Provençale
Located in the old town, also known as Le Suquet, Auberge Provençale is an old favorite with both locals and the yachting crowd who have been coming to Cannes for decades. Savor traditional Provençal dishes, including bouillabaisse and stew, in the cozy setting of the authentic traditional Inn that has been in this spot since 1860.

Table 22
Another old town favorite, Table 22 serves seasonally inspired, traditional Mediterranean cuisine with a twist. Headed up by Chef Noël Mantel, who trained with Alain Ducasse, the food and service are as refined as one might expect from such a protege.

La Môme Plage
For mouth-watering Asian dishes with a Mediterranean touch, reserve a spot at La Môme Plage. Whether it’s grilled meat and fish or signature sushi, the beach club is ideal for a long, lazy lunch (perhaps with a refreshing dip in between courses) or lively dinner, starting with cocktails at the bar.

Away from the Show

Eden-Roc Restaurant, Hôtel Du Cap-Eden-Roc, Cap D’antibes
The iconic location of the Eden-Roc restaurant is worth the 25-minute journey by car, or just 10 minutes by tender. For the latter, the private teak jetty welcomes you ashore, and if it is choppy, head to the main marina in Antibes and the hotel will send a car to collect you. Either way, arrive in style and enjoy an aperitif at the Eden-Roc Champagne Lounge or the Bar Bellini. For those visiting during the evening, the Eden-Roc restaurant serves classic Provençal cuisine, with signature dishes such as wild sea bass with basil and fennel mousse. If you are looking for a classic Riviera lunch, the Eden-Roc Grill serves light cuisine with everything from a club sandwich to a marinated crab salad on the menu.

La Guérite, Ile Sainte-Marguerite
Lying just off Cannes, the sun-drenched Ile Saint-Marguerite is where you will find one of the best restaurants along the whole of the Riviera, La Guérite. Dishes are influenced by Chef Yiannos Kioroglou’s Greek heritage combined with local French and Italian ingredients, with fish playing a starring role. Open for lunch only.
