2023 Newport Beach International Boat Show Wrap-up

Despite the early onset of May gray and June gloom in Southern California, the vibes were sunny at the 2023 Newport Beach International Boat Show. The show’s first edition since 2019 proved that the event was missed in the region as thousands of attendees clamored on the docks throughout the four-day event.

Northrop & Johnson kicked off our week of NBIBS fun with a captains’ event at the Helmsman, a local Newport Beach haunt. This excellent networking event welcomed local captains to mix and mingle with our brokers from our Newport Beach and San Diego offices.

The show began on Thursday, April 27, with a VIP preview day. N&J clients and guests joined us at our signature lounge to view the largest yachts in the show. The impressive 143’ (43.67m) LEIGHTSTAR was indeed the star of the show. Not to be outdone, SERENGETI, the 130’ (39.62m) Westport, was much sought-after for both charter and sale. At 128’ (39.01m) with her stunning blue hull, the Palmer Johnson APHRODITE also drew a lot of eyes. The 72’ (21.95m) DON JUAN was a crowd pleaser, and the 63’ (19.2m) Baia PARVINA, 58’ (17.68m) Bluegame TIMEOUT, 38’ (11.58m) Sabre SEA SEA S and 25’ (7.32m) Regulator CHASER welcomed hundreds of guests throughout the show. And the show got busier from there on.

On Friday, April 28, Northrop & Johnson and our sponsors, NetJets, ACJ and Space Perspective, welcomed clients to our signature lounge for a soiree and yacht hop. All yachts welcomed guests to come aboard as they sipped Champagne with the backdrop of a setting SoCal sun.

The show ended with the sounds of horns blowing at 5 pm on Sunday, April 30. After four days of fun on the docks with our clients, crew and fellow NoJos, we said farewell to our yachts, clients and the cutest little sea lion pup that decided to make his home aboard LEIGHTSTAR’s tender on Sunday.
