Swiss watch manufacturer Richard Mille’s RM 72-01 Lifestyle In-house Chronograph, presented for the first time in white or black ceramic, delivers the functionality of a sports watch in a supremely elegant style that is well suited for wear aboard your luxury yacht or anywhere else for that matter. Its automatic movement is the first flyback chronograph developed and designed entirely by the brand, an achievement that took an in-house team of watchmakers no less than 30 months of full-time dedication to it.

Three new counters on the dial immediately capture the eye and prove that a chronograph need not be limited to timing only short periods. The colored hands turn in perfect harmony within these three timescales (blue for small seconds, orange for minutes and green for hours), all coordinated by a 6-position column wheel. Positioned at 2 o’clock, its minute counter can totalize up to a full hour. As for its hour counter, at 5 o’clock, it can count out time for 24 hours. The movement’s sublime precision can be viewed through its openwork caseback, a hallmark of the Richard Mille brand.

The RM 72-01’s tonneau-shaped three-piece case consists of white or black TZP ceramic top and bottom bezels sandwiching an 18K gold caseband. The watch’s two pushers require the exact same force to activate the various different functions—start, stop and return to zero–whether in flyback mode or not. The exact pressure required has been determined so that the engagement of the mechanism is distinct, yet gentle. The shape and surface of the pushers, along with the ‘click’ sound that is so clear and unambiguous to both finger and ears alike, help to create a feeling of comfort, seamlessness and mastery of time. When the timepiece’s gold and ceramic crown is pulled, the function indicator offers a choice of winding (W), date adjustment (D), and time setting (H). A date window display is positioned vertically at 7 o’clock on the dial.
