The 98′ (30.08m) motor yacht THEA is now listed for sale with Northrop & Johnson yacht broker Martin Holmes. Priced at $899,000, THEA is a prime example of maritime craftsmanship and luxury, and she is now available for discerning buyers.
Originally built in 1979 by Kong & Halvorsen Marine & Engineering Company in Junk Bay, Hong Kong, THEA embodies the legacy of Harvey Halvorsen’s boat-building family, which traces its roots back to 1887 in Norway and 1924 in Australia. This “Island Gypsy” motor yacht has been meticulously maintained and upgraded, showcasing a remarkable transformation from 2012 to 2014 in Thailand. During this period, THEA’s hull was stripped to its frames, the stern section was lengthened, and new wiring, hoses, and equipment were installed.
In March 2021, THEA underwent a comprehensive repaint from navy blue to elegant oyster white, alongside varnish and mechanical upgrades. Relaunched in April 2023, she was docked in Malaysia until July 2024, when she was sold and brought to Thailand, where an experienced crew brought the yacht back into a fully operational condition.
Upon entering through the cockpit’s double timber doors, guests are welcomed into an expansive and comfortable informal lounge. The space features solid teak floors and veneer, complemented by off-white upholstered panels and removable teak louvre frames for unobstructed views. New sofa upholstery added in 2024 enhances the refreshed and inviting atmosphere. Moving forward, the dining area features an extendable table crafted from unique Thai timber, “Khao Dam,” and is illuminated by LED lighting against black deckhead panels. The area comfortably seats eight guests and opens directly to the deck for excellent ventilation.
The portside galley is a chef’s paradise, equipped with a commercial gas range, full-height fridge, dishwasher, microwave, and oven. Corian countertops and a double stainless sink, paired with a well-thought-out waste management system, make this space both functional and stylish.
THEA’s wheelhouse is a highlight, with a full-beam dash featuring advanced navigational electronics and steering options via a joystick or an “art deco” hubless wheel. Slimline helm seats mounted on a custom bracket allow for dining while underway, assisted by a dumb waiter from the galley. The viewing sofa provides superb underway views, and sliding side doors lead to the Portuguese bridge, equipped with rudder, engine, and thruster controls.
Accommodating eight guests, THEA offers four staterooms, including a master suite with a king-size bed, flatscreen TV, and a leather-topped desk. Additional staterooms include a queen and a convertible cabin with a Pullman berth, each with en-suite bathrooms. An upper deck stateroom features a queen bed and a private shaded deck with lounge chairs.
The yacht’s stern was lengthened to include a hydraulic swim platform and storage garage, with ample space for a tender. The cockpit features a fixed bench seat, varnished teak railings, and easy-to-navigate side decks with new stainless-steel handrails. The foredeck includes storage lockers, a U-shaped bench seat that converts to a daybed, and twin Muir anchor windlasses.
Additional features of THEA include rainwater harvesting, a separate shower water supply, and a dumb waiter connecting the galley and wheelhouse. Equipped for short-handed operation and easy maintenance, THEA is ideal for both extended voyages and charters.
