NORTHROP & JOHNSON CEO, KEVIN MERRIGAN, CLIMBS MOUNT KILIMANJARO

Boldly rising from the Tanzanian savannah, Mount Kilimanjaro stands at 19,340 feet (5894m) and is known as a magnificent, yet challenging climb. The climb takes hikers through five diverse ecosystems that vary vastly in both beauty and temperature. Starting near the equator, hikers begin in the bushlands then move through rain forest before making way to the Heath Zone and further up to the Alpine Desert before the finally reaching Arctic summit. While on their journey, Kevin and Matthew saw it all — from Colobus monkeys to Zebra rock, lava and volcanic ash to glaciers and, gratefully, the Uhuru peak. It took Kevin and Matthew four and half days to reach the mountain’s summit.

“Words cannot describe the feeling once reaching the summit,” Kevin said. “It was just amazing, and what made it even better was having my son standing by my side. The whole experience was unlike any other we’ve experienced before.” After relishing their time at the summit, Kevin and Matthew began their one-and-a-half-day descent.
