Northrop & Johnson shines a light on Senior Charter Broker Fiona Maureso. Fiona is a charter broker in our Antibes office and has been with Northrop & Johnson for eight years. Here is what she has to say about life and her time at Northrop & Johnson.
After I left university, I worked briefly as a deckhand/stewardess on a 131-foot (40m) yacht and got to know the sales broker who subsequently sold the yacht. When he admitted that he desperately needed an assistant, I jumped at the chance to explore the “other side” of yachting and 35 years later, I’m still exploring.
There is a great sharing culture at N&J that I believe is unique in this industry. Our team spirit definitely gives us an edge.
Being entrusted with a client’s precious holiday time is a great privilege and it’s hugely satisfying to see an initial charter developing into a long-term relationship with that client and their family.
I was thrilled when Kevin Merrigan asked me to join the N&J team in 2013 and to set up the Antibes office. I am very proud of how strong the Antibes and Monaco teams are now.
I love the more remote areas of the Mediterranean, Turkey, and Croatia being particular favorites. Further afield, the Seychelles and French Polynesia are my top cruising destinations.
My dream yacht would either be a traditional motor yacht with beautiful classic lines and vast deck spaces or a sleek sailing yacht.
Traveling is definitely a favorite activity for me and my family, especially when combined with new culinary experiences and the chance to explore the culture of a new destination.
Throughout my career, I have been an active member of MYBA – The Worldwide Yachting Association. From 2014-2018, it was my privilege to stand as President, an experience that was sometimes challenging but always hugely rewarding
Take the time to talk to your broker and don’t be afraid to ask questions. The more we know about you, the easier it will be to create a memorable charter experience for you and your family.
