Northrop & Johnson spotlights Senior Charter Broker John Cichanowicz. Having been a charter broker for 15 years and successfully captained nearly 500 charters, John offers a wealth of knowledge and experience to assist his clients with creating their dream yacht charter.

How did you get into the yachting industry and what lead you to where you are today?

My passion for yachting and the water started at an early age. My parents were avid boaters and as a small child, I loved steering my father’s boat. When I was 20, I decided to chase my childhood dream and started working on yachts. I received my first captain’s license at 21 and began cruising the world. I spent 20 years as a captain, then decided to come ashore. Having always worked on charter yachts, I knew becoming a charter broker was the perfect fit.

What do you think makes N&J special?

The people, we are truly a team and have a terrific family atmosphere. The knowledge and experience amongst the team is incredible and the history of this company is second to none.

What do you like most about your job?

Everything, what’s not to love! I love pleasing my clients and making their dreams come true. I love traveling and the excitement. I also love the opportunity to go aboard the yachts, meet the crew and see them first-hand so I can ensure they are top shape for my clients.

What accomplishment at N&J makes you most proud?

Making client’s dreams come true, nothing makes me happier than to create the vacation of a lifetime.

What is your favorite cruising destination and why?

Really everywhere. Every cruising destination is unique, and I have favorite things about each one of them. If I have to only choose one, it would be Bonifacio, Corsica. The physical God-made beauty in juxtaposition with manmade beauty is unlike anywhere else.

If you had a yacht where would you spend the most time aboard?

I’d spend most of my time on the sundeck with my friends. Offering the best views aboard, we’d lounge in plush comfort, have fun in the Jacuzzi, dine alfresco and when the sun goes down, we’d enjoy the stars.

What’s your favorite activity you enjoy with friends/family?

Anything on the water!

What is one fun/unique fact about yourself?

I have an amazing little chihuahua named Dax that travels the world with me.

What is one tip for first-time clients?

Choose a really good charter broker. People do not realize how important it actually is, but ultimately it can make or break your holiday. A great charter broker will sincerely listen to your wants and desires, they will take their experience and knowledge to find you a yacht and crew that best fit you and your guests.
