Steeped in maritime history and lovingly restored to her former glory, HERMITAGE stands as a testament to the golden age of sailing. Crafted in 1929 by the C.A. Morse shipyard, now known as Lyman-Morse, in Thomaston, Maine, this classic sailing yacht boasts a rich pedigree and a storied past. Originally christened as SEA GYPSY, HERMITAGE participated in World War II, patrolling the waters near Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and Block Island as part of the picket patrol. In the years that followed, HERMITAGE continued to leave her mark, playing a pivotal role in the classic yachting movement and revival of the 1960s. With her sleek lines, traditional look and impeccable upkeep, she inspired a new generation of John Alden-styled schooners, setting the standard for elegance and craftsmanship. In the 1980s, she underwent a graceful transformation from a gaff-rigged schooner to a staysail schooner, further enhancing her performance and overall aesthetic.

Now, after an extensive 2 million dollar refit spanning 2023-2024, HERMITAGE emerges from her restoration as a timeless beauty. Every aspect of her design and functionality has been carefully reconsidered and meticulously upgraded, ensuring she remains at the pinnacle of classic yachting for generations to come. From her galley updates and air conditioning system to her electrical and navigational systems, no detail has been overlooked.

The 2023-2024 refit saw the installation of a new Sea Frost 12 Volt system in the freezer compartment, a state-of-the-art HVAC system to keep guests comfortable in any climate and the addition of a second Ramnarine chart plotter for enhanced navigation capabilities. Engine instruments were upgraded to OEM specifications, and Lewmar thrusters were rebuilt to ensure smooth maneuverability in tight quarters. The propulsion system underwent a comprehensive overhaul, with the inboard engine removed, rebuilt, and reinstalled, and new bearings, seals, and hoses added to the transmission system for improved performance and reliability.

Tankage and plumbing were also addressed during the refit, with new fuel, fresh water, and holding tanks installed to ensure ample supply on long voyages. An updated water-making system was rebuilt to provide fresh water on demand, while standing rigging, stays, shrouds, and halyards were renewed or replaced to ensure the utmost safety and stability under sail. Winches were upgraded to hydraulic Lewmar models for enhanced performance, and safety equipment, including bilge pumps and fire-fighting systems was added.

Despite her age, HERMITAGE's interior spaces are as elegant and inviting as ever, with teak accents and dark glass cupboards lending a sense of timeless charm to the main salon and dining area. The salon is anchored by a large wooden dining table, perfect for meals or simply enjoying conversation. A large mirror adds to the sense of openness. The galley, positioned on the port side forward of the salon, combines modern convenience with classic elegance, featuring stainless steel countertops, a double sink and a Meile electric stove and oven. The modern yet classically styled galley further solidifies HERMITAGE’s commitment to maintaining traditional charm without compromising functionality.

Accommodating up to 12 guests in seven cabins, HERMITAGE offers a luxurious retreat. The owner's stateroom, situated on the port side aft of the salon, exudes classic elegance with its teak accents and tranquil ambiance. Bathed in natural light from a port window, the room features a welcoming double bed flanked by a wooden hanging closet and ample storage. A full en-suite bathroom adds convenience and privacy. Guests are treated to three staterooms on the port side, each designed for comfort and style. Detailed teak doors lead to cozy sleeping quarters with bunk-style twin beds, overhead lighting and portholes. Spacious hanging closets and additional storage ensure a clutter-free environment. A mirrored layout on the starboard side offers twin bunks and ample storage for added convenience. Starboard and aft of the salon, another guest stateroom awaits, boasting classic wood teak finishes and a comfortable double bed. A sink and hanging closet add to the room's functionality, ensuring a restful stay for guests. Forward, the final guest stateroom features a bright ambiance and a double bed with storage, providing easy access to the deck through the lazarette hatch.

HERMITAGE cuts a striking figure on the water, with her sleek lines and graceful silhouette evoking the timeless beauty of a bygone era. Her teak pilot house offers unparalleled panoramic views. To starboard is a second helm station ready for navigation and to port, a dedicated navigation station offers all the essential instruments and charts. The custom seating area forward features a U-shaped teak bench that provides the perfect vantage point for alfresco dining and soaking in the sights and sounds of her cruising grounds.

Whether under sail or at anchor, HERMITAGE is a true masterpiece that captivates all who encounter her.
