The 95-foot (29m) LA FENICE is a masterpiece. She’s a symbol of yachting heritage and a marvel of engineering and design. Originally commissioned in 1962 by financier Anthony Boyden, she was built by Richard Ironworks and designed by Laurent Giles Naval Architects to support Sovereign, Boyden’s 12-meter challenger in the 1964 America’s Cup. The brief was simple: a comfortable and seaworthy craft capable of crossing the Atlantic and sailing to Australia under her own power.
LA FENICE joined the French Navy as a training ship in the mid-1980s, before being acquired in 2001 by renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh. A significant refit followed, with Christian Liaigre lending his design expertise from 2005 to 2016. His vision, particularly evident in the 2015/2016 refit, masterfully blended modern style with classic appeal, featuring dark wood floors, elegant paneling, and leather accents. The open-plan layout creates a light and airy atmosphere, seamlessly connecting the yacht’s interior spaces.
LA FENICE was purchased by her current owner in 2020 and returned to the UK in 2021 for a significant refit until 2023. Expertly restored, she stands as a testament to craftsmanship and attention to detail.
The exterior design of LA FENICE came from the drawing board of Laurent Giles and was built by Richards Ironworks in Lowestoft. She is a rugged, explorer-style classic yacht. Her aft deck features comfortable seating that provides access to the swim platform or to the main deck salon.
As you enter the yacht’s interior spaces, you will notice the perfect balance of modern aesthetics and traditional charm. Dark wood flooring accented with leather paneling creates a cohesive and welcoming space that plays well with the yacht’s open layout, offering spaciousness and connection between different interior living spaces.
Nine guests are comfortably accommodated in four en-suite staterooms aboard LA FENICE. These include three doubles and one triple stateroom with a double bed and a Pullman berth, ideal for families with children or younger guests. The staterooms showcase the same timeless style and classic elegance found throughout the yacht. Rich woods and neutral color palettes enhance the relaxing atmosphere aboard and harken back to the classic charm felt when cruising aboard LA FENICE. The yacht carries four professional crewmembers in three crew cabins.
LA FENICE features a spacious flybridge aft with an outdoor dining area and a large sunpad where guests can soak in the sunshine and relax. All outdoor spaces can be shaded upon request.

A masterpiece of engineering and design, the 29m LA FENICE is more than just a yacht; she is a piece of yachting history. Designed by Laurent Giles Naval Architects and built by Richard Ironworks in 1962, she was originally commissioned by financier Anthony Boyden as the support vessel for Sovereign, his 12-metre challenger for the 1964 America’s Cup. The main requirement was for a comfortable seaworthy craft which would be able to cross the Atlantic and sail to Australia under her own steam.
In the mid-80s, she joined the French Navy as a training vessel and was later acquired by photographer Peter Lindbergh in 2001, undergoing a significant refit. Christian Liaigre contributed to her interior design from 2005 to 2016, with his primary input in the 2015/2016 refit, achieving a perfect balance between modern aesthetics and traditional charm with dark wood flooring, paneling, and leather accents. The open-plan layout creates a sense of spaciousness and seamlessly connects the living spaces throughout the yacht’s interior.
The current owner purchased her in 2020 and brought the vessel back to the UK in 2021, undertaking a significant refit between 2021 and 2023. LA FENICE has been expertly restored by her discerning owner.
LA FENICE accommodates up to nine guests in four ensuite staterooms. Her guest accommodation comprises three double staterooms and a triple berth (a double bed and a pullman) for younger guests.
